It's welcome back to the club again - or welcome to the club if you are a new member - we'll be delighted to meet you all. An informal evening to meet up again and chat about what you took over the summer. You'll also hear about the programme for the coming year and we'll present trophies for last season. A very informal evening before we start the hard work for the coming season.

The first of our Members Evenings, where we'll do some fun photographic challenges in groups - exactly what is yet to be determined.
Tue 30 Sep 2025 - Speaker 01 - Lloyd Moore "The Art of Storytelling - the Extra Element" (Christchurch)
The first of this season's speakers and it will be in person at Christchurch.
Lloyd Moore will give us a talk entitled "The Art of Storytelling - the Extra Element". Hopefully this will give us tips on how to make our images have that wow factor and a warmth that will convey our reasons for taking the photograph. Let's take these tips into our images for the coming year.
Remember to bring in your prints for the Print Competition the following week.
Mon 6 Oct 2025 - Ron Harvey Landscape Competition at Potters Bar against several other clubs
The Ron Harvey Landscape competition is an external competition in which we have participated for several years. It is one where we pit our talent against several other clubs.

Our first Print Competition of the season. This is an Open competition and there is no time limit as to when the image was taken. Please bring your prints in to Christchurch on the previous week's meeting.

Tue 14 Oct 2025 - Speaker 02 (ZOOM): Emma Finch "Portraits with Impact"
Our first ZOOM speaker of the year will be Emma Finch from Manchester, where she is a top portrait photographer. Emma has also given talks to Zoom-only clubs like Camversation and MyPhotoClub. An enticing night for all those interested in photographing people.

A PUB Evening at the SUN in Lemsford. This is a way to get to chat with members for a longer period of time than at a normal club meet-up. It is also a good opportunity to get to know the committee and any new members this year.
Tue 28 Oct 2025 - PDI Competition No 1 Theme "OPEN" : Judge - Ken Payne
This is the first PDI competition and there is no set theme. You can enter up to four PDI images of any subject which can have been taken at any time. The first two will be judged in the first part of the evening (Round 1) and the second two will be judged in the second part of the evening (Round 2). Each round will be judged as a separate competition.

Tue 4 Nov 2025 - Speaker 03: Tom Peck "Mobile Phone Photography" (Christchurch)
As the camera on mobile phones improve dramatically we are starting to get stunning full definition images from them. Tom Peck will be here to discuss mobile phone cameras and software in the first part of the talk and lead us through an interactive session in the second half of the evening. This should be a fun interactive session for all to enjoy. I will inform members before the talk of any software that need to be installed on their phone for them to enjoy the evening.

Liverpool is a great place for a photographer. The riverfront with its new architecture and newly redesigned docks; the Baltic triangle with its many old places of work and loads of graffiti; the two cathedrals dominating the student area; the classical buildings around the main station at Lime Street; and the musical heritage of Billy Fury, the Beatles, Cilla Black and many others - all make this a photographer's paradise. And who better to tell us about it than Geoff Drake, the author of the FotoVue book "Liverpool", an invaluable guide if you are visiting the city. ...
Tue 9 Dec 2025 - Members' Night: Master of Prints evening (Christchurch)
Rachel Dunsden will be the guide for our Members evening for the "Masters of Prints" evening. This will be a collection of prints from the PAGB competitions that were submitted by members of photographic competitions all over the country. The prints received very high recommendations in the PAGB competitions.
Tue 16 Dec 2025 - Club's Christmas Party at the Sun in Lemsford Village
As a happy end to the calendar year join us for the club's Christmas Party at the SUN Pub in Lemsford village. We will have a buffet evening and there will be a quiz run by our usual hosts Dave Foster and Rob Powell. Lots of fun and a great way to end the year.
Tue 6 Jan 2026 - Speaker 05 (Zoom): David Gilliver "Light Painting"
We welome back on ZOOM, David Gilliver, who gave us a great presentation on macro photography with his "Little People" presentation last year. This time David will be talking about his other photographic passion "Light Painting".
As it will be the dark season maybe we could follow that up with a Members' practical night on the subject.

This is the second PDI competition and has two rounds.

Tue 27 Jan 2026 - Speaker (Zoom): Shona Perkins "Blurred perceptions - ICM in Scotland"
Tonight we welcome on Zoom a new speaker for us and also a new topic for us. Shona Perkins from Scotland will show us how she uses ICM - Intentional Camera Movement - to obtain impressionist like images of beaches and landscapes up on the isles of the Outer Hebrides. Shona also works with a (painter) artist in exploring and exhibiting the landscapes there.

Tue 17 Feb 2026 - Speaker (ZOOM): Stan Farrow "Abstract Photography"
And now for something different - Stan Farrow will talk to us about "Abstract Photography". What exactly is Abstract Photography?
It discusses why photographers should consider doing abstract work, and how this might have a spin-off into their other day-to-day photographic work. The presentation includes a discussion of what abstract art is, and whether there is truly such a thing as abstract photography. ...
Tue 24 Feb 2026 - PDI Competition No 4 : Theme "SPORT" : Location and Judge TBC
This is the fourth PDI competition and has two rounds.
Please submit up to two images on the theme of Sport for round 1 and up to two images of an open nature for round 2. Images with a Sport theme must have been taken after the 13th of May 2025 but there is no date restriction for open images.
This could be a competition at Christchurch or over Zoom. We are waiting to see if Christchurch will be free for this date - otherwise it will be over ZOOM.
Judge: TBC - this will depend on where the competition takes place.

Members Night No 05. A chance to do a practical topic in groups on a particular topic.
Tue 10 Mar 2026 - Pub Evening at the SUN, Lemsford.
Pub evening at the SUN in Lemsford. This gives you a longer time to chat with other members and get to know them better. You can also bring down any equipment you want, like cameras, to find out better how they work. But a great social evening.
Tue 17 Mar 2026 - PDI Competition No 5 : Theme "Minimalism" : Location and Judge TBC
This is the fifth PDI competition and has two rounds.
Please submit up to two images on the theme of Minimalism for round 1 and up to two images of an open nature for round 2. Images with a Minimalism theme must have been taken after the 13th of May 2025 but there is no date restriction for open images.
This competition could take place at Christchurch or over Zoom.
Judge: TBC.

Tue 31 Mar 2026 - Speaker (ZOOM): Chris Upton "Essential Composition"
We welcome back Chris Upton to speak to us about "Essential Composition". We can all buy cameras, press the shutter button and take images. But will they be any good? How can we tell a story with our images because they have good composition. Can we teach photographic and artistic composition or are these gifts that we're either born with or not? Chris will discuss all these tonight.
Tue 7 Apr 2026 - MULTIBATTLE competition at Bishops Stortford - NO CLUB TONIGHT
This is a an external competition with several other photographic clubs but there will be an added incentive for us this year. It is that we won the competition in 2025 and we therefore have to defend the trophy - and our pride.
Note - there will be no official Club Night tonight as it is the first week after Easter Sunday so you will have the chance to attend this interclub competition if you want.

The ANNUAL PDI competition will take place tonight.
You can enter up to four PDI images of any subject which can have been taken at any time. The first two will be judged in the first part of the evening (Round 1) and the second two will be judged in the second part of the evening (Round 2). The winner will be the author who has the highest aggregate score for the four submitted images.

There will be a trophy for the first place in the Colour Print section and another trophy for the first place in the MONO section.
Tue 28 Apr 2026 - Speaker (Christchurch): Peter Warne "African Wildlife - beyond Safari Tourism"
Peter Warne is a local speaker and has given a talk before to us about "African Wildlife - beyond Safari Tourism". I missed this talk but everyone that was there thought it was the best wildlife talk they heard. So hopefully I will be able to hear it tonight. For those members who did hear Peter's talk the first time, he assures me that he has updated this talk quite a lot so there will be lots of new material there.

This is a prints competition. The first half will be made up of panels of three prints, the second half with panels of five. They should all tell a story or set a theme in their collection. Full details will be sent out nearer the time.

The AGM and announcement of the Trophy winners for the season. Please submit any topics you want discussed at the AGM a few weeks beforehand.
Tue 19 May 2026 - PDI Knockout Competition - we are the judges
Our Annual fun PDI Knockout Competition. We can submit up to two images per person and these are drawn against each other in pairs. We vote on the better one, which goes through to the next round. We continue this until we reach the final two images. The winner of this final round wins the competition - for which there is a trophy.
