Welwyn Garden City Photographic Club
Wildlife Under Pressure
Members may be interested in a letter I have had published in the January 23 issue of Amateur photographer. Although it primarily concerns seals at Donna Nook, where they have had the highest number ever recorded of pups being abandoned by their mothers, the same pressures exist elsewhere in the World.
Whether it is the Everglades, Yellowstone, Yosemite, the Farne Islands, India, Pakistan, Nepal, Australia and Africa, photographers and fellow human beings are putting wildlife under pressure (and I do not except myself).
This is really a plea for greater awareness when we operate in groups before we bring down new pressures to protect animals. The result will be even more controls on photographers. P.S. Have you ever tried to photograph listed birds on their nest? Look on the web to see which species are protected and what the penalities are, in addition to licence controls.
If anyone is interested I will post the letter on the club notice board. Derek.

Good to see your letter in AP, Derek and a timely reminder that thoughtless shooting through glass can do as much damage as big game hunting.
